eyewitness

Zzzzzzzzzzz...

Many people would say that's the sound of a church service on any typical Sunday morning. Deadly boring... soapy platitudes... hypocritical denunciations... prudish warnings against anything real and deeply pleasurable... ranks of drowsy worshipers putting in their mandatory time in "God's house" before being released once more to life outside the dim stained glass, behind which they comfortably deposit most of their religion until the next weekend.

If that's Christianity, who wants it?

On the contrary, Christianity is a face-to-face reunion with God. Visit our "Eyewitnesses" section to read how Jesus Christ is wonderfully alive and busy in the world today, bringing people to life. As people believe in him and open their hearts and lives to him, they find that he is undeniably real, powerful, and good. Our earnest hope is that you also will become an eyewitness of his majesty.

Prepare for July 6 Worship

worship

From Pastor Paul to the Worshiping Saints of God:

Below are the hymns we will lift up in praise to God through Christ: He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God (1 Peter 1:20-21).

It is the Father’s will that we should love, look to, listen to, honor, and await his son from heaven. All this comes to its high point in this age of the world as we assemble in the beauty of holiness on that day especially sanctified as his own. We should remember the vision granted the apostle John, who “was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day,” when he heard a loud voice like a trumpet, and when he “turned to see the voice that was speaking,” he saw the Lord Jesus walking among the assembled churches and preaching through the preachers on his own day (Rev. 1:10-3:22). See you on the Lord’s Day!

Hymn 94 … How Firm a Foundation
Hymn 176 … Hail, Thou Once Despised Jesus
Hymn 188 … Jesus, I Am Resting, Resting
Gloria Patri/Lord’s Supper

Your servant for the sake of Christ,
Paul

Prepare for June 22 Worship

Dear Worshiping Saints of God:

Below are the hymns we will sing this Sunday at New Life—all variations on that “new song” that makes melody in our hearts, and which only the redeemed can sing—

“…and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.” Rev 14:3

21 … Sing Praise to the Lord
184 … The King of Love My Shepherd Is
644 … May the Mind of Christ My Savior
163 … At the Name of Jesus Every Knee Shall Bow

Your servant for the sake of Christ, who is worthy to be serenaded,
Paul

Prepare for June 8 Worship

Dear Worshiping Saints:

Below are the hymns we will sing as we exalt Jesus Christ in divine worship this Lord’s Day, while he walks among his lampstand churches, tending them—us—so we burn brightly to illuminate this present dark age with his glory…

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumper… Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest.” Rev 1:10, 12-13

“The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Command the people of Israel to bring you pure oil from beaten olives for the lamp, that a light may be kept burning regularly. Outside the veil of the testimony, in the tent of meeting, Aaron shall arrange it from evening to morning before the LORD regularly. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations. He shall arrange the lamps on the lampstand of pure gold before the LORD regularly.” Lev 24:1-4

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Mat 5:14-16

18 … You Holy Angels Bright
159 … O Savior, Precious Savior
576 … Awake, My Soul, Stretch Every Nerve
175 … A Wonderful Savior

Your servant for the sake of Christ,
Paul

Prepare for October 13 Worship

Dear Worshiping Saints of God:

I eagerly anticipate worshiping with you all tomorrow. We will hear from God’s Word about knowing the love of Christ that is beyond knowing, feast together on Christ at his table, and pray. Then we will share our monthly fellowship meal together and afterward go out to “the ends of the earth” in our neighborhoods to invite them to worship Christ at New Life. Hymns we will sing with one voice, through Christ to the Father in the joy of the Holy Spirit, are below.

58 … O Splendor of God’s Glory Bright
268 … Welcome, Happy Morning
175 … A Wonderful Savior Is Jesus My Lord
Gloria Patri (Lord’s Supper Sunday)

With love in Christ,
Paul

“Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.’ (Isa 45:22-23 ESV)

Prepare for October 6 Worship

Dear Worshiping Saints of God:

Below are the hymns we will sing this Lord’s Day as we join the call that all with life and breath should praise the only Creator and Redeemer: Psa. 149:1-4 “Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly! Let Israel be glad in his Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King! Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre! For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation.”

252 … When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
590 … Jesus, Master, Whose I Am

Prepare for September 1 Worship

Dear Worshiping Saints:

Below are the hymns we will sing as we glorify and enjoy the infinite, eternal, tri-personal being who made us and then again rescued us from our sentence of death. We will celebrate the Lord’s Supper also. Notice that hymn 339, “For Your Gift of God the Spirit,” is one we have not yet sung in morning worship, so look over the excellent lyrics that extol the Holy Spirit and his ministry for us (meshing with the current sermon series), and practice the lovely tune if you can.

347 … The Church’s One Foundation
339 … For Your Gift of God the Spirit
(Lord’s Supper)
Gloria Patri

Love in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ,
